Bulgur Porridge

One of my all time favorites Bulgur Porridge. Takes as little as 20 minutes and full of flavor ( and fiber).
4 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup bulgur
1 tablespoon flour
1 cup coconut milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 tablespoons condensed milk

Directions

  1. Bring salted water to a boil.Stir in bulgur.
  2. Cover and cook on slow heat for 15 minutes.
  3. Combine flour, coconut milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla together in a bowl.
  4. Simmer until thickened. Add a little water if it becomes too thick.
  5. Sweeten with condensed milk and or sugar.
  6. Serve hot.
Add a cinnamon leaf if you like. Remove just before service.

  5. My late mom used to cook it in rice.
    And cooked the porridge.
But is the 1st time I'm cooking it for myself.
Thanks Jamaican Foodie for the receipt.

  7. Good base recipe. I added closer to 1/2 tsp salt and 2 cup coconut milk plus the cinnamon leaf. 1 cup coconut milk may be fine if its homemade or thick. The bulgur wasnt soft enough after 20 min so next time I will soak it first.
